Apple CarPlay gets written a dozen ways — CarPlay, car play, apple car play. It is all the same thing: your phone’s maps, music, messages and calls on the screen in your dash, controlled without picking the phone up.

Two ways to get CarPlay in your car

• Integration behind the factory screen. The cleanest option in most modern vehicles. The dashboard looks stock, the factory menus still work, and CarPlay appears as another source. No hole cut in the dash, so resale value is not affected.
• A new head unit. The right answer for older vehicles, or where the factory screen is small, slow or broken. We fit units with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto and keep your steering wheel controls working.

Will I lose my steering wheel controls?

No. We retain steering wheel audio controls on every install. It is the question we are asked most, and it is the difference between a clean job and a cheap one.

Wireless or wired?

Wireless connects the moment you start the car, with the phone still in your pocket. Wired is more stable on a long drive and charges as you go. Many units do both. Which suits you depends on how you actually use the vehicle, so we ask before recommending.

Wireless CarPlay adapters

If your vehicle already has wired CarPlay and you are tired of plugging the cable in every trip, you do not need a new head unit. A wireless CarPlay adapter is a small module that plugs into the existing USB port and makes it connect on its own as soon as you get in.

We sell and fit them. It is a quick job compared with a screen install, and it is the cheapest way to modernise a car that is otherwise fine. We will check your vehicle actually supports it first — the adapter only works where wired CarPlay is already there, and a lot of listings online do not make that clear before you have paid.

CarPlay retrofit on an older vehicle

A CarPlay retrofit means adding it to a car that never came with it. Depending on the vehicle that is either an integration module behind your factory screen, or a new touchscreen head unit. Lifetime warranty on the installation

If anything we installed ever fails, bring it back and we will fix it – for as long as you own the vehicle. The head unit or module itself carries its manufacturer’s warranty.
